was a judge and Vice-President of Section I at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg from 2001 to November 2015. Before that, she was a lawyer and founder of the law firm Wittdöring & Steiner. During this time, DDr. Steiner represented Holocaust victims in compensation proceedings against the Republic of Austria, including over 80,000 cases of former slave and forced labourers from Ukraine. She is also a visiting professor and teaches at numerous universities, such as the University of Stanford (USA) and Hong Kong State University.
