After studying medicine in Vienna, from
1984 specialist training at the 1st Surgical
University Clinic at Vienna General Hospital
(1990 specialist in surgery; 2011 specialist
in visceral surgery). Research stay 1994-
1995 at St. Mark's Hospital in London.
Habilitation 1995 at the MUW . Associate
university professor there in 1997. Fellow
of the Royal College of Surgeons (England)
in 1999. Since 2007 Head of the Department
of Surgery at the Hospital of the Merciful
Brothers in Vienna. Member of the Supreme
Medical Council 2008-2010. Membership
and functions in numerous domestic and
international professional societies. Visiting
Professorships in Bologna 1998, Tehran
2000, Vilnius 2000, and at the Kyril and
Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia,

since 2003. Presidency ACO 1998-2002,
Presidency Austrian Society of Surgery
2017-2018. Main research interests from
the field of visceral surgery, especially
colorectal and minimally invasive surgery.
Over 160 publications in peer-reviewed
journals.
