About the Lecture

Victim protection in men’s work, with a focus on men as victims of human trafficking

Based on the comprehensive support services provided by the victim protection organisation MEN VIA to men affected by human trafficking in Austria, a practical insight is given into the work of a psychologist in this field. This is characterised by cooperation between different professional groups, both within the facility and outside, including with representatives of the judiciary, police and the asylum system.

In addition to providing protection and safety, the core task is to stabilise and strengthen affected men and to work together on sustainable future prospects. At the same time, MEN VIA operates as an NGO dependent on funding, which entails complex professional role requirements. Together with the victim protection work of Men’s Counselling Vienna, this is embedded in a critical examination of gender stereotypes and masculinity. The presentation will outline how it is possible to deal with opportunities and limitations in this exciting and challenging field.
